Poly

The fun, chill little sister to Ester (with their names combined to be a tongue-in-cheek "polyester"), Poly does share plates well. I mean, really well. The cocktails are well-balanced and interesting, and the food menu is curated and beautifully executed.

Cocktails, $23-$24

Each of the cocktails at Poly are gorgeous. Whether you are into something light and refreshing, or packs a punch, the ever-revolving cocktail list has something to suit every palette. Where you'd rather be is a pandan-based, fragrant number; golden buzz is strong yet balanced; and green with envy is a sweet yet smooth cocktail that's dangerous moreish.

Six Natural Oysters, $38

Plump, juicy Sydney rock oysters that hasn't been overly-washed, so they retain the wonderful saltiness of the ocean. Paired with a chili vinegar, they are the perfect start to the meal.

Potato bread, $10

This is a must-order at Poly. The chewy, satisfying bread is paired with a magical whipped sesame dip that we couldn't let go even when the bread was gone, and proceeded to slather it on everything else.

Treviso Fennel, $20

A hallmark of a good restaurant, in my eyes, is their ability to make vegetables taste absolutely amazing. The fennel salad is refreshing and light, but flavourful and textured, with parmesan and chili oil balancing the mild flavour of the fennel.

Fried potato, $16

Crispy on the outside, soft and layered inside, the fried potato is a brick of satisfaction topped with savoury and umami salted egg yolk.

Steak, $68

Simple, yet beautifully done. The bone marrow adds a fatty, buttery touch to the meat drizlled with a pepper sauce.

Cabbage, $28

Another wonderfully executed vegetable dish, who knew cabbage could be so flavourful? Served with bagna cauda and smoked cream, the cabbage is buttery soft yet with the tips slightly crisped. This is simple ingredient maximised.

Chocolate mousse, $20

Ah, the deconstructed dessert of my dreams. Slightly bitter, rich chocolate mousse is served with whipped praline, some salted caramel and toasted buckwheat, so you can play with the texture and the flavour to your heart's content.

Sorbet, $14

And finally, a fantastic, tart, refreshing passionfruit sorbet with amaretto cream and vanilla oil to end the meal.
