Thicc Cookies

I'm going to commence this post about New York styled thiccccccc cookies with why I do not recommend you get these cookies for a special occasion. This was straight up the most stressful and disappointing customer service experience I have experienced in having food delivered to work.

I had made an order a week in advance for the cookies to turn up to the office on a particular day. The team was gathered, we were prepared to sing happy birthday. Then the entire day passes - my colleagues getting increasingly disappointed - and no cookies. No contact, either, despite multiple attempts from my end.

While waiting (fruitlessly) for the cookies to turn up, a colleague told me that she had ordered from the same company before and the cookies did not arrive until after 8pm. So I waited. I asked the building concierge to be on the lookout. Nothing.

While it's true that the website states the delivery window is 9am-6pm (or later if particularly busy), I simply could not fathom how they could fail to deliver to a CBD office building past 9pm without any communication.

Finally, I get a response the next morning, informing me that the driver couldn't reach me to get a delivery and that FYI the cookies will be delivered that next day. An interesting explanation, given there was no missed call on my phone, and that the driver had three options of dropping the cookies: the building mail room, the building concierge, and the company reception. None of them were approached by anyone attempting delivery (yes, I checked with each of them multiple times throughout the day). Instead of apologizing and arranging a convenient delivery, they simply decided that they are going to deliver the day-old cookies when it suited them, despite the fact that post lockdown people are not going into the office every day.

No apologies. No follow-ups. No offer of a discount for the fact that through their fault, the cookies we had paid full price for is no longer fresh.

One cannot even blame a hapless courier company: because the delivery address was in Sydney's CBD, it was directly delivered by the cookies company. I wish our order had been delivered by a courier or Australia Post, which are much more reliable, as it turns out.

Despite the reasonably good review I am about to give to their product, I would not recommend this company - what's the point of having a delicious cookie when that cookie cannot be delivered on time for your event?

I ordered 4 flavours for the team. Each came the size of a large palm - not quite as impressive as those from New York's famous Levain, but possibly the closest thing we have in Sydney. Despite being day-old, a quick 20 seconds in the microwave did revise them and turn them into buttery, gooey, decadent cookies.

Choc chip, $6

I am usually an unusual-flavours person, but sometimes, the original really is the best. That is certainly the case with the choc chip flavour. Beautifully dense, the large chocolate chunks melt wonderfully. I like to enjoy it with just a sprinkle of salt flakes to really bring out the flavours.

PB & Nutella, $8

Oh, this one was heavenly. It's like eating a Reese's cup in giant cookie form. I also like it because it is one of the least sweet options we tried...and trust me, after a couple of mouthfuls you start to be thankful for that.

Salted Caramel Chip, $7

Despite looking a little dry on the outside, this was a pretty good cookie. I think the salt part of the salted caramel could be a little more prominent, but then again, that's simply a personal preference. It reminds me of the classic Messina flavour.

matcha, $7

This is a crowd-pleasing matcha flavour, but not one that would necessarily satisfy die-hard matcha-fans. Need I say the words? "It is too sweet". In particular, the side covered in white chocolate is almost cloying. I understand why that choice was made by the company (because lots of people don't really enjoy the grassy bitterness of matcha) and although I wouldn't buy it for myself, I certainly would not recommend against it.

Score: 0/5 for service, 3.5/5 for product. So 1.75 in total, which I will round up to 2. Again, there is no point making a good product if customer service is so poor that it leaves a bitter taste in the consumer's mouth.
If you are curious about trying these (admittedly pretty good) cookies, go to a market at which they have presence where you can wait in line and watch them hand you a cookie.
Cost: each cookie is between $6-8.
Website: google chicc cookies. I'm sorry, I just can't bring myself to link them.
