Daisy's Milk Bar

Ah, nostalgia. Is it just me, or has the past ten years been nothing but a long, ceaseless stream of nostalgia? Not that I mind: I love the stylistic choices of every decade before the 70s. Daisy's Milk Bar, as its name may suggest, is a 50s-styled, American-feel eatery that specialises in quick, greasy eats and frothy milkshakes.

Classic strawberry milkshake, $6
I mean, it's a milkshake. Delicious enough, but nothing special. Daisy's also serves a 'deluxe' milkshake for $8 (a tad steep!) that 'comes in a glass' and has slightly more interesting flavours such as 'iced vovo' and 'choc peanut butter'. Call me a grinch, but I've never understood milkshakes. It seems a very quick and unsatisfying way of consuming a lot of calories.

Bacon & Egg Roll, $10
The addition of fried onion to this breakfast classic makes the otherwise unremarkable dish smell like heaven. The egg is fresh with runny yolk, and the brioche bun is gently sweet. Having said that, I still find this overpriced - you could easily get something just as good for a couple bucks less elsewhere.

Daisy's Wellness Bowl, $16
The worst 'wellness bowl' I have ever had. On a bed of rice, bland, uninteresting and flavourless items are added - including dry shredded chicken without an ounce of taste. The only interesting thing in this sad affair is the carrots, which is honey roasted. The menu made it sound extremely appetising, but really, you're spending too much for a lot of sadness.

Uccella's Jaffle, $8
Jaffles have made a definite come-back in recent years, and this one sounds particularly interesting: pulled pork, mac&cheese and BBQ sauce.

Sounding interesting is one thing, tasting good is another. The BBQ sauce is overwhelmingly sweet with a strange metallic tinge, the max&cheese is overcooked, and the pulled pork is fatty - tastes and looks like reject-meat.

Score: 0.5/5
To be fair, the food doesn't taste completely awful - it's just not good. The atmosphere is cute, but the sanitary standards isn't up there. The idea of a milk bar has so much promise, but I must say, Daisy's kinda blew it.
Price: waayyyyyy overpriced for what you get.
